Such staunch believer of Thirumal was Thirumazhisai alwar. This weekend we decided to visit Thirumazhisai near to city (20 kms) housing the oldest temples. As soon as you take the right to Thirumazhisai from Poonamalee high road you can see the Othandeeswar temple gopuram with in few minutes on to your right hand side.

The temple is under renovation. Once you get in the surroundings paint the advance in years. Typical to any Easwaran temple of ancient chola times, the Shiva lingam is the main deity with Ambal to his left; Othandeeswar also sits there in all holiness with his Kulirndhanayagi. After praying to the Easwar the inner most praharam starts with Vinayaka, Dhakshinamoorthy, Durga, Nataraja and ends with Kulirndhanayagi's glorious darshan.

Once outside the inner praharam we walk beyond Nandhi and Kodimaram to door opening to the temple lake. Quite a huge once standing witness to Tamil's thoughtfulness.

We next move to our pradharsanam on the outer praharam. The inner gopuram looks worn out. There are separate sannadhi's for lord Murugan, Gangadheeswarar, Dhandeeshwarar and lord Vishnu. At the end is a mandapam lead by few steps to host events. The entrance to the temple has a huge vasarpadi. Once outside the temple we again take a glimpse of the magnificient gopuram before exiting.

Our next temple was that of Lord Jagannatha Perumal. Couple of men at the Othandeeswar temple guided us the way. We had to take the road just opposite to this temple and then a right to reach Perumal temple.

The temple is built on a huge area and its outlook screams of this ancientness. It is surrounded by long wall on all four sides. The main deity is the sitting Jagannatha Perumal along with Thirumangaivalli.

In the same inner sanctum there is Thirumazhisai Alwar's sannadhi. He has the sudharsana chakram and a third eye on this leg. He is one of the 12 Alwars, learnt various religions of his times but believed solely in vaishnavism. Once the priest gave us theerthan and Jadaari we left the inner praharam. The outer praharam holds the sannadhi's of Narasimha and Andal.

Coming out of the temple we could see its cool location surrounded by trees. There is also a huge temple tank. While we tried to navigate to Veetrirundha Perumal temple we came across this Pillayar with an unusual name - Milagu Pillaiyar. Need to find out the name cause.

The Veetrirunda Perumal again gave a merciful darshan. As the name goes this Perumal is in the sitting position along with 8 Lakshmi's. The temple priest explained that the Perumal owing to call gave the dharshan here with Ashtalakshmis, four Lakshmis on the crown on all four sides,  Sridevi and Boodevi on either side. Also the chakra in the right hand and feet on lotus flower is similar to Venkatesa Perumal in Tirupati. This temple also serves as one of the centers for booking TTDC. The first praharam has the sannadhi's of Lakshmi Narasimha, Vaishnavi and Alwars. A separate sannadhi in this praharam is dedicated to Sri Anjaneya Swamy. The idol is that of the Swamy carrying sanjeevi.

On the way back..

Porur lake during the drive home..

Though few kilometers from the city Thirumazhisai has its own divinity. A must go trip.

Anjaneyar Temple - Gerugambakkam, Porur

Very recently we came to know about the Anjaneyar temple built by actor Arjun is at Gerugambakkam. On a Sunday evening we drove towards this place. We need to detour from the Kundrathur main road to reach this temple and from then on we need to face a rough and patchy road. In just 5 minutes one can reach the temple. A small residential street leads to the temple. Very near it one could see few small stalls mushroomed up to sell pooja items. The vehicles have to be parked in the street near the temple gates. First is the corridor were few trees are seen.  On taking left is the entrance to the temple and you can see the Lord Anjaneyar much ahead. Here too are few trees uniformly spaced out. There is a coconut farm adjacent to this temple. There is a shelter above Lord Anjaneyar, but for that it is a open air temple. Facing Lord Anjaneyar and to the left and right corner are two shrines - one for Lord Ganesh and the other for Lord Anjaneyar's - Lord Rama, Lord Lakshmana and God...

Beach - Marakkanam

Born in the coastal area one realises the beauty of the beach only in instances where you have to stay away from your place for a long time or a person from non-coastal area appreciates the beach and call you lucky for coastal nativity. When Tsunami occurred, we are sure no one wanted to live in a coastal region. Having said that, over the weekend we went on a drive while resulted in experiencing the beach, back waters and the canal in Marakanam, roughly 120 kms from Chennai and 20 kms from Puducherry. Suddenly on a Saturday morning we decided to make a short trip to Marakanam where our friend has a farm house and called us in for a visit. After completing the weekend chores and a quick lunch, we started the drive towards Marakanam. We took the Chennai by-pass route to Vandaloor and then to ECR, crossing Mahabalipuram to reach the small town of Marakanam within 2 hrs. Numerous prawn Hatcheries in this place occupy the seashore. There seems to be around 53  Hatcheries in this stretc...

Dhandayuthapani Temple - Nadupalani

Nadu Palani Murugan Temple - Achirupakkam  On a Saturday we decided to go out on a short trip and zeroed-in on Nadu Palani Murugan Temple. Less than 100 kms from Chennai, this was a long time item in the bucket list.  Achirupakkam town is where this temple is located. Achirupakkam is near Melmaruvathur. We took the Chengalpet route via Tambaram. Driving through Chromepet, Tambaram and Perungalathur was a mayhem on the Saturday afternoon traffic. We took a break at Manoj Bhavan at Mamandur. Hotel has lost the earlier charm and so was the food. As guided by a person near the hotel, just in 15 kms you can see an arch at the left side on the highway itself for Nadu Palani Murugan temple. From the arch, one has to drive into the village for 6-7 kms to reach the temple, at Perukkarani village. We had to take a ticket of Rs.50 to drive in the car to the small hillock. Around 100 steps, its a easy climb too. At the foot hill are Lord Anjaneyar and Lord Idumban on either sides fo...
