Chetpet Eco Park - Chennai

In the middle of Chennai city's hustle bustle landscape there is an eco park. This place was in the wish list but could only make it this time on a late evening. One can reach this place in less than half an hour from the central of the city. The entrance will lift your brows - two huge aquariums on either side and the name in the centre with a boat, fishermen and net.
Food court building is the first thing to be seen as soon as you enter. Amble parking space is available  through multi-level parking infrastructure. Its Rs.25 per hour for parking. Leave the food court to your right and walk further to the left side to get to the entrance ticket counter.
Its Rs.20 per head and separate tickets for fishing, 3D picture and boating. One can see info about fishes and coral reefs detailed in the lobby to the ticket counter. While standing in the queue to buy the entry ticket or later we can go through these in leisure. As seen below the info is available in both Tamil and English.
The lake area depicted in the map is a revelation, never thought that Chennai has such a water body within its limits. Nice to see Chennai-ites make good use of this park. Many youngsters and elders take brisk walk on the lake boundary. While kids enjoy merry go round, swing and others games installed in the kids area. Also near this place, food joints offer snacks of variety for kids.
There is also a 3D movie room called the multimedia room which shows picture for visitors. This is well maintained and a big entertainment for the audience. Enjoyable one particularly during the summer vacation.
Till you reach the counter and further along the walking path there are various replicas like frog, turtle, etc which attract kids mainly. Many visitors take pictures with these replicas and kids are seen happily sitting on those.
The boating area is confined to one side while the other side of the lake is for fishing. Boating facility is provided even beyond 6PM. The bridge divides the boating and fishing. All along the path, very nice parking tiles are set making walking a pleasure. Dustbins are placed at frequent places to help the visitors. Hope we keep this place clean for our betterment.
For fishing Rs.300 is charged by providing the equipment and whatever fish(es) caught can be taken home. Fishing right in the centre of a metropolitan city is something one cannot imagine. Many are interested in these it seems. It was late evening for us so no luck.
After a walk all along the boundary of the lake, the next stop is the food court in the second floor of the multi-level parking lot building. This second floor is simply the other name for multi-cuisine. It offer - south Indian, north Indian, Chinese, Burmese, Malaysian, Indonesian, steamed foods, ice creams and deserts.
As it is the IPL season, cricket matches are projected in huge screens and on televisions as well in the dining area. Also one was surprised to see that we can order food here, have them too and then pay for them. Various stalls take note of our table number and serve us the food but never bother about the bill payment. We have to say what all we ate at the bill counter to get the bill and pay for it.

yeay! Chennai post after a long time..

Anjaneyar Temple - Gerugambakkam, Porur

Very recently we came to know about the Anjaneyar temple built by actor Arjun is at Gerugambakkam. On a Sunday evening we drove towards this place. We need to detour from the Kundrathur main road to reach this temple and from then on we need to face a rough and patchy road. In just 5 minutes one can reach the temple. A small residential street leads to the temple. Very near it one could see few small stalls mushroomed up to sell pooja items. The vehicles have to be parked in the street near the temple gates. First is the corridor were few trees are seen.  On taking left is the entrance to the temple and you can see the Lord Anjaneyar much ahead. Here too are few trees uniformly spaced out. There is a coconut farm adjacent to this temple. There is a shelter above Lord Anjaneyar, but for that it is a open air temple. Facing Lord Anjaneyar and to the left and right corner are two shrines - one for Lord Ganesh and the other for Lord Anjaneyar's - Lord Rama, Lord Lakshmana and Goddess

Pudhumanai Pugudhal (house warming)

கல்யாணத்தை பண்ணிப்பார், வீட்டை கட்டிப்பார் says an age old Tamil saying denoting the tedious nature of both as duties. The house warming ceremony denotes the culmination of building a house and entering into it for living. In a typical Tamil house hold, buying or building a new house is a pride and a dream. Building a house involves lot of rituals. First comes the 'Adikal naattu', laying the foundation stone. On an auspicious day, Just before the sunrise Bhoomi Pooja is done and the first stones are layed by the family and the builders involved. All present are given Prasad or sweets from the Pooja. This marks the kick start of the house building project. Once the building skeleton comes up with walls built and rooms differentiated there comes a time to fix the frame and threshold of the doors. This requires Vaasakaal Pooja to bring up the Vaasal. A team of married ladies in odd numbers form the main part of this ceremony. Navaratnas are buried below the Vaasal and e

Gandikota trip - Day 2 - Belum Caves

The second day at Gandikota was again a rainy onw with heavy thunders the previous night. Seeing sunrise was ruled out but we set out at 7AM after a quick refreshment. Most of the shops were shut due to power cuts since it's been raining continuously since last night, managed to get mini cup chai for Rs.10 and went to the right of the fort where we could see a different view of the creek. The air-conditioned tent accommodations are also here. Also, adventure sports happen here. The place was shabby due to overnight rains and the tourists had littered the place completely with bottles, glass pieces and food items. This happens in most of the tourist places, unless the visitors take the responsibility to keep the place clean, government cannot help maintaining. As we went through the restaurants nearby, no food was available due to lack of power. So we decided to drive to Jammalamadugu for breakfast. Within 20 mins we reached Jammalamadugu, it was a beautiful morning owing to weathe
