Durbar, VR Mall - part 2

Made another trip to VR Mall this weekend - for? Darbar
It was a 9:30 AM show, so we entered the mall early. After checking the tickets at the main entrance the security allowed us to drive inside to the parking area.
The much sought after highest number of screens in a Chennai theater became the ideal place to watch the latest sensation by Rajni. On the third floor of the mall is the PVR sharing the floor along with the food court and the children's play area. Since it was quite early for the mall timing we were not allowed to roam around the third floor beyond the PVR area.
The lobby of PVR is aesthetically designed and laid out. Digital displays near the ticket counter are filled with advertisements. Food stalls inside PVR has a range of condiments at inconsiderable prices. Our movie was played at AUDI 04. Only at 9 AM we were allowed to enter the 4th screen, till then we had to admire the floor, pillars and take in the ambiance.
While entering AUDI 04, we were surprised to see huge space in front of the screen, the first row itself started much far away from the screen. Neatly maintained theater has comfortable seats for Rs.250 charged per person. Ample space between rows helped in easy navigation. Sound was out of the world experience and it was a treat to watch Rajni on the screen.
Coming to the movie - was a typical Thalaivar film but could have been much better. Music did not match up to Petta, its a let down as songs are not catchy except Kizhi. Though the movie fell below expectations it is still an experience for Rajni fans. Nivedha Thomas was very good. Nayanthara not doing a duet number in the film had to be appreciated. Yogibabu has done his part well. Fight at the metro station is refreshing. No punch dialogues is a miss.

Rajni at the age of 70 puts in too much efforts to entertain his fans is commendable. No one else can pull this through. If one watched Darbar, its only for Rajni.

Anjaneyar Temple - Gerugambakkam, Porur

Very recently we came to know about the Anjaneyar temple built by actor Arjun is at Gerugambakkam. On a Sunday evening we drove towards this place. We need to detour from the Kundrathur main road to reach this temple and from then on we need to face a rough and patchy road. In just 5 minutes one can reach the temple. A small residential street leads to the temple. Very near it one could see few small stalls mushroomed up to sell pooja items. The vehicles have to be parked in the street near the temple gates. First is the corridor were few trees are seen.  On taking left is the entrance to the temple and you can see the Lord Anjaneyar much ahead. Here too are few trees uniformly spaced out. There is a coconut farm adjacent to this temple. There is a shelter above Lord Anjaneyar, but for that it is a open air temple. Facing Lord Anjaneyar and to the left and right corner are two shrines - one for Lord Ganesh and the other for Lord Anjaneyar's - Lord Rama, Lord Lakshmana and God...

Aadi koozh vaarthal

Aadi koozh vaarthal is a religious occasion for most Tamil house holds. In the month of Aadi raagi koozh is served to all thirsty people around the neighborhood. Koozh is prepared and offered to Amman followed by the distribution. While offering koozh there are also other heathly eatables included in the Padayal.  The koozh preparation starts a day earlier. Rice is cooked first and raagi flour mixed in water is added to it and cooked till ragi gives a glazed look to the koozh. This is then left over night to ferment. The next day water is added to the koozh to get a drinking consistency. To this we add finely chopped onions as topping and curd to give that cooling effect. Once the koozh is all set we go about the padayal to the almighty Amman. Aadi, the Tamil month solely dedicated to Amman is for celebrating her and her kindness to her devotees. So we first offer the koozh to her in the Padayal followed by white rice and other items. The USP of Aadi koozh is that...

ECR Chennai - a Spiritual Trial

Pachai mamalai pol meni pavalavai kamala chenkan Achuta mararere ayar tham kozhute ennum. Echsuvai thavira yan poi indiralogam alum Achsuvai perinum vendean arangama nagarulanea. The East Coast Road in Chennai in known for the numerous resorts, hotels and other locations of entertainment. How about we take a spiritual trial on the same road for a change? This is what we did this weekend on a half day journey. Our first destination was Thiruvidanthai - around 30 kms from the city. The Nithyakalyana Perumal temple is an ancient one. Being near Mahabalipuram area its obvious builders were the Pallavas. Being a weekend there was a big queue of devotees till the entrance near the gopuram. Due to renovation on account of kumbabishen scheduled in near future we were allowed to workship only the urchaver instead of the moolavar. Perumal provided darshan in full floweral alangaram. Coming out after the darshan strong aroma of tamaraind rice pulled us towards...
