Mysore Dasara is a Royal Festival continued to even today. The 10-day festival starts after no moon day and closes on the Vijayadashami day. On the 9th day of the festivity we visited Mysuru and got to witness the festivity of the old and majesty city called Mysuru.
Our stay at Sai Inn in Gokulam at Mysuru costed us Rs.3000 per night owing to the great demand for accommodation as visitors flooded the city to get a glimpse of the Dasara. After checking in we walked through the streets of Mysore to reach Nalapaka restaurant to have Veg biryani and meals. Price was nominal and so was the taste of the food. After an hour's rest we set out to get a glimpse of the city. As friends suggested to visited the Mysore palace. Flower show was in full swing. After parking in the car and getting in, we could see a huge array of visitors which only kept growing as the time passed.
Palace is closed for visitors at 5 PM so we could not get it and also the palace was brimming with visitors, once could confirm this from the huge pile up of footwears outside the palace. We we moved towards the flower show. Excellent work of art each one were. Elephants, Red fort, Leaders, all in flowers. Each piece of work was safe guarded by a person. There was also the Golu - dolls exhibit. As we went through the show, the lights came up due to sunset. In sometime the crowd erupted with a noise and that's when everyone turned their attention towards the palace which started getting the lights on and finally glowed. It was splendid - ample lights and at the right places made the palace shine brightly. Worth the visit and watch.
Once we came out to the parking lot to drive back, the worst happened. All vehicles tried to get out at the same time and it became chaotic. It took us more than an hour to just come out of the Palace complex to the road. Once on the road, your excitement hits peak as you witness fully lit roads. The trees in Mysore wore lightings. It was like the roads are wearing jewelry made of lights. It was one of a kind experience. The Hop on/hop off buses with passengers on the roof were all excited. With great difficulty we navigated through those roads and reached our hotel. We set out for dinner at 9:30 pm after a quick refresh. But most of the restaurants were getting closed so we had to get done with whatever was left as the last customers before closure of TKS Iyengar's. Looks like this city sleeps early.
