Jaipur is full of forts and palaces depicting Monarchy. The kings here had friendly relation with Mughal empire so their assets have stayed in tact and they had continued to live their life with any trouble. Their architecture is hugely influenced by Mughals. The dooms of the mahals and the sheesh mahals are obvious proofs. Also during the British reign the Kings here maintained cordial relationships and hence there had been no harm done to their structures and also we don't see any Anglian buildings in this city unlike other cities in India. The bazaar shops are leased and the Royals receive the benefits. The Royal family still owns major properties in the city like the mahals and current Royal who is 27 yrs old still enjoys the privileges. He stays in London and often visits Jaipur. Anyone can have a visit/luncheon with the Royal for Rs.3000 fare.
We wanted to do a North India trip for a very long time and got to reminisce it through this Jaipur trip. But it did not give the same satisfied feeling we got in other trips. We ended up the same way years back during our trip to Shirdi and Sanisingnapur. People in the name of guide and sight seeing throng you for money leaving a bitter taste on the trip. Once you are identified as a stranger to the place or a tourist you fall prey to people trying to take advantage.
During this trip at different places we faced payment issues like one place they insisted on UPI and money was not accepted. The day we reached airport the driver paid parking charge in cash while they said its been 25 days since payment has been changed to UPI. At one shop when we paid through card the bill amount was more than what was told as total and reason for that being GST. Another instance at rope car only cash was accepted and fellow tourists was stranded due to that. We had to visit ATM to have cash in hand. Off late UPI payment making waves and living with out UPI is becoming difficult.
